Mission Statement

Rebuild Padang Project facilitates long term recovery efforts in Padang, Sumatera by coordinating the rebuilding of homes for individuals in the City of Padang.

On September 30, 2009 at 5:20 a 7.6 earthquake struck a devastating blow to Padang, Sumatera, Indonesia, the port city that services the needs for traveling surfers to the Mentawai Islands. We are attempting to mobilize and coordinate volunteers, technical assistance, and raise money to help rebuild individual homes of the people in Padang.

We aim to bring together the Local Community, NGOs, Surfing Tour Operators and Traveling Volunteers from the around the world to help rebuild the homes for the community. Members invest muscle, materials and/or money to the community’s unmet needs. We work to mobilize the collective resources of all members and match them up on a per project basis with other agencies, non-profits, and faith-based organizations with a focus on rebuilding individual homes.

The Plan.

Ideal Involvement Process for Surfing Tourist coming through Padang

1. Rebuild Padang Project will identify individual projects or homes to rebuild.

a. Determine the right home plans and costs.

b. Current goal is to spend $2000-$3000 for materials per home. – see example links…

2. Recruit a group of volunteers to raise the funding and supply some labor support

a. A whole boat of 10 guys each donating $200 - $300 could provide the basic material costs.

b. Then Before or After their surf trip to the Mentawais guests can come work in the community and help with the reconstruction project they help fund.

3. Maintain and Organize the projects by creating a master schedule and project plan.

a. Organize the purchase and deliver of materials.

b. Organize the labor from the volunteers.
